Symposium: "Antibiotics - Soil's Microbial Miracle"

In December, the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology of Rutgers’ School of Environmental and Biological Sciences hosted a symposium: Antibiotics - Soil's Microbial Miracle in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Selman Waksman Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Dr. Selman Waksman led the research effort in the discovery of Antibiotics and was awared the Nobel Prize in 1952.

Speakers included renowned scientists, medical experts, business executives, and a well known science reporter with The New York Times. Rutgers University President Robert Barchi and Robert Goodman, Executive Dean of Agriculture and Natural Resources, welcomed the delegation along with Joachim Messing, Director of the Rutgers Waksman Institute of Microbiology, and Amy Vollmer, President of the Waksman Foundation.
